Boko Haram: Security Presence Not Everywhere Because Of Inadequate Personnel, Says Shehu.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, has blamed the lack of security presence in some communities affected by insurgency, on the shortage of personnel in the war against terrorism.“The thing about law enforcement is that they are not present 24 hours of the day in all of these communities because of the inadequacy of their numbers,” he said.According to him, the Multi-National Joint Task Force is doing “an exceedingly good job.
When asked if the soldiers fighting terrorists have been instructed not to fire first unless being attacked, the presidential spokesman denied knowledge of it.“Well, to the best of my knowledge, I am not aware there is a policy. And I don’t think policy in that regard can be justified.” While decrying inadequate funding to effectively fight the war against terrorism, Shehu blamed the National Assembly for keeping quiet on the President’s request of withdrawing $1 billion dollars from the Excess Crude Oil in purchasing arms for the troops.
Speaking on the recent attacks in Zamfara State, Shehu noted that the troops are flushing out the bandits and their informant. He, however, appealed to religious and community leaders to cooperate with the security agencies by availing them of useful information.
