Springer, Schneider tossed as Jays stumble way home from Cleveland
The Jays wound up with a disappointing split of the four-game series in Cleveland, and return home following a 5-2 road swing that began with a resounding three-game sweep in Boston.
After consecutive 1-0 results in the previous two games, and with Alek Manoah and Noah Syndergaard on the mound in the finale, one had an inkling the scoring wouldn’t be as challenging. Leadoff doubles by rookie callups Jose Tena and Brayan Rocchio in the fifth spelled the end of the big right-hander’s day.
The Jays began the game with a hard-hit ball by Merrifield, who was then forced out at second as part of a double-play.
