A bill seeking to create a new state in the south-east geopolitical zone has passed the second reading at the house of representatives.
The proposed legislation, which is co-sponsored by three lawmakers from the region — Amobi Ogah , Miriam Onuoha , Kama Nkemkama , Chinwe Nnabuife , and Anayo Onwuegbu — scaled a second reading during plenary on Thursday.
In his legislative brief, Ogah said the bill seeks to address a “longstanding” issue of regional parity and administrative efficiency within the south-east.
