The Terminal Manager, APM Terminals, Apapa, Steen Knudsen, says that bigger vessels are more environment-friendly and lower the total emissions of the shipping industry.

Knudsen said this recently in Lagos when the terminal received the largest container ship ‘Kota Cantik’ to ever berth at the Lagos Port Complex, Apapa. The Singapore-flagged Kota Cantik, operated and managed by Pacific International Lines, is a 6,606 TEU containership with a draught of 11.6 metres, a length overall of 300 metres and a beam of 40 metres.

He further said that carrying a higher number of containers per vessel would translate into lower capital and operating costs per container, thereby reducing the transportation cost per unit. “Also, since bigger vessels consume less fuel per container transported, the emissions per 20ft equivalent units are lower than for smaller vessels. Thus, bigger vessels like the Kota Cantik are more environment-friendly and contribute to lowering the total emissions of the shipping industry,” Knudsen said.

He lauded the management of the Nigerian Ports Authority for maintaining the channels and professionally piloting the vessel to the port.

Why we are holding Emefiele, by DSSWhy we are holding Emefiele, by DSSSuspended CBN boss is flight risk, says OAGF  ‘Family members, lawyers not denied access’   THE Department of State Services (DSS) and the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (OAGF) have explained their opposition to the bail application filed by the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele.   Their reasons were contained in the counter-affidavits they filed before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court sitting in Abuja.   The DSS warned that the suspended CBN boss, if admitted to bail, could interfere with its investigations if admitted to bail.   The OAGF specifically dismissed speculations that Emefiele was being held for terrorist-related crimes. It also said the CBN boss’ detention has nothing to do with neither his foray into partisan politics, nor the botched naira redesign policy.   In its counter-affidavit, the DSS said that those linked to the CBN boss in the course of the investigation have gone underground and ought to be traced…
