Crowdfunding is one of the ways people are trying to help victims' families following the shootings that left 18 people killed and 13 others hurt on Oct. 25. If you come across one of these websites, there are a few steps you can take to give you a greater sense of security like going to a reputable website.

President and CEO of Better Business Bureau of Southern Piedmont and Western North Carolina Tom Bartholomy advises staying away from sites like Facebook or Craigslist where there is no donation vetting."See that they’re actually requesting the funds for something specific to pay medical bills, to pay funeral expenses, scammers usually don’t get that specific because they’re just trying to go for a wide shot," Bartholomy explained.
