The last ASUU strike lasted for eight months, between February 2022 to October 2022. But for the intervention of the National Assembly , specifically the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, it could have lasted much longer. His intervention played a pivotal role in resolving the issue. It was the first time the National Assembly was involved in the negotiations between the Academic Staff Union of Universities and the Federal Government.
These efforts demonstrate Gbajabiamila’s ability to handle complex negotiations and resolve conflict, not to mention the fact as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, he is required to entertain varied interests not just as a need to get the job done but also to ensure he enjoys the trust and respect of his colleagues in the House. He excelled at this till the end of his valedictory session in the House on Wednesday, 7th June.

Sanwo-Olu appoints SSG, CoSLagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has appointed a Federal Commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC), Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, as Secretary to the Lagos State Government (SSG). The Governor also re-appointed Tayo Ayinde and Gboyega Soyanwo as Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff respectively. The appointments were announced on Thursday by the Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola. The appointments take immediate effect. Salu-Hundeyin, a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, is a Commissioner representing Lagos State in the National Population Commission (NPC) before she was appointed SSG.
