Concerned Market Women in Benin City held a peaceful protest against the murder of Success Izekor, a 38-year-old pregnant housewife, allegedly killed by her husband, Kelvin Izekor. The protesters demanded justice for Success and expressed concern over the increasing cases of domestic violence against women.
A group of women under the banner of Concerned Market Women staged a peaceful protest in Benin City on Monday, condemning the brutal killing of 38-year-old housewife Success Izekor by her husband, Kelvin Izekor. Reports indicate that Success, who was four months pregnant, was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband at their residence on No. 50, Upper Mission Road, Benin City , on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
The protesters, carrying banners with various messages, expressed their deep concern over the escalating cases of domestic violence against women. Speaking on behalf of the group, Odion Asemota made a passionate appeal to the government to ensure justice for the deceased. She alleged that while Success’s husband is currently facing trial, his mother is making boastful claims that he will be released due to a purported mental illness defense. 'This was a man who married Success in June last year, and just eight months later, he brutally stabbed her to death while she was four months pregnant. 'After killing her on Saturday night, he went to her store on Sunday and stole the money she used for her Point of Sale (POS) business. 'He even attempted to secretly dispose of her body on Sunday, but neighbors caught him,' she alleged. DAILY POST recalls that the Edo State Police Command confirmed the murder in a statement released by its Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu. Yamu stated that the police received information that one Kelvin Izekor had killed his wife, Success Izekor, and was about to be attacked by an angry mob. 'Operatives of the Aduwawa Division swiftly responded to the report and found the lifeless body of the woman lying in a pool of her own blood with deep cuts on her head. 'It took considerable effort by the police operatives to calm the mob, rescue the suspect, and take him into custody for investigation. 'The victim was removed and rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead,' he said. Yamu further quoted the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, as expressing her condemnation of the rise in domestic violence. The commissioner assured the public of a thorough investigation and vowed that anyone found responsible would face the full force of the law
