Baze University, a private institution based in Abuja, Nigeria, has announced a new leadership team to guide its future growth and innovation. Distinguished Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, disclosed the appointments at a media briefing following the 37th University Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting. Professor Jamila Shu’ara was named the new Vice-Chancellor, taking over for a five-year term.

Professor Shu’ara brings a wealth of experience in education and governance to the role, having previously served as the university's Registrar, Director of Strategy, and Director of Academic Planning. Her academic journey includes degrees from Howard University, USA, and Bayero University, Kano. She is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management and the Home Economics Professionals Association of Nigeria (HEPAN). Professor Shu’ara's career highlights include serving as a lecturer, rising through the ranks to become a Chief Lecturer in the Nigerian Colleges of Education system, and holding administrative positions like Head of Department, Dean, Deputy Provost, and Provost of a Federal College of Education. She has played a key role in national education policies, leading the Teachers Registration Council and managing the FME/World Bank/UBEP II project. Furthermore, she led reforms in the education, aviation, and petroleum ministries as Federal Permanent Secretary from 2012 to 2017.Professor Abiodun Adeniyi was appointed as the new Registrar, bringing his extensive experience in media, consultancy, and educational management. He holds degrees from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the University of Leeds, UK, where he earned a British Chevening Scholarship to study International Communications. Professor Adeniyi's doctoral research on Internet and Diasporic Communication was a pioneering study published by the University of Leeds. After earning his PhD, he served as a Communications Consultant for the World Bank at Nigeria's Bureau of Public Procurement. He later founded Witswords Consults before transitioning to academia at Baze University. From 2016 to 2023, he headed the Mass Communication Department, becoming an associate professor in 2018 and full professor in 2021. He was the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies before his appointment as Registrar. Dr. Dogo Mohammed Waziri was reappointed as Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Baze University Hospital. Dr. Waziri is a recognized healthcare administrator and policy expert, known for his pivotal role in advancing Nigeria's National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). As the former Executive Secretary of NHIS, he laid a strong foundation for the scheme's effective implementation and expanded health insurance coverage beyond civil servants to a wider segment of the Nigerian population. His expertise in health insurance policy and management is internationally acknowledged.
