The Bayelsa State government has blamed the insolvency status of the state on the bogus federating structure of the country under the grip of the Federal Government.
The Technical Adviser on Finance and Revenue to Governor Douye Diri, Timipre Seipulou, said this on Tuesday during the transparency briefing for the months of May, June and July, 2020 held at the Treasury Building in Yenagoa.
Seipulou said the federating nature of the country had forced some states of the federation to depend more on revenue allocation from the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee. The governor’s aide said this situation was capable of making most states record lean IGR and depend largely on federal receipts, stressing that this was the major reason for the clamour for the restructuring of Nigeria.
“Assuming the federating nature was not the way it was, probably our own IGR should have included revenue from oil and gas because that is our own natural resources.
