Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has denied alleged shortage of teachers in primary schools across the state.

The executive chairman of SUBEB Bauchi, Dr Surumbai Dahiru Usman Bauchi, in a statement signed by the board’s information officer, Muhammad Abdullahi said contrary to the reported number, the teacher-pupil ratio in the state is 1-79.

He said, “to put the record straight, the pupil teacher ratio on the last annual school census was 1-79. This indicates number of pupils a teacher meet in class per lesson. “After the last annual school census, it was discovered that there is shortage of teachers in the state. Therefore, approval has been granted to recruit additional teachers.”

Surumbai said as parts of government commitment to provide adequate teachers for quality education, Governor Bala Mohammed approved recruitment of additional teachers.
