Barau Jibrin, deputy senate president, says some relief materials meant for poor households in Kano state have been diverted.

Jibrin, senator representing Kano north, said he is the chair of a presidential committee for the distribution of relief items such as bags of rice in the north-western state.

The committee has its membership drawn from the All Progressives Congress , New Nigerian People’s Party , Peoples Democratic Party , Inter Party Advisory Council and traditional rulers. Speaking with reporters after a meeting of the committee on Thursday, the deputy senate president said President Bola Tinubu wants equitable distribution of the items.“We just held a meeting in respect of a committee set up by Mr. President on how to distribute palliatives to the needy in respect of the Kano people,” the senator said.“So, he decided to set up this committee to ensure that there is equitable distribution of palliatives to the needy people of Kano state.

“He has given a lot of palliatives, but they are not being distributed evenly, they have not gone to those at the grassroots who should have them. “Beneficiaries shall be listed on a sheet of paper, and each shall be given a bag of rice after such a person is identified through a valid means of identification such as a national identity card, driver’s license, voter’s card, or an international passport.”
