Rangers new signing Leon Balogun has been named in the Scottish Premiership Team of The Week for the match-day one fixtures.
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard handed the Nigeria international his competitive debut in the Gers 1-0 win over Aberdeen at the Pittodrie Stadium on Sunday.
Balogun’s impressive performance in the game, where he won six aerial duels, made a team-high three clearances and accurate passes of 88.4 per cent, was enough to earn him a spot in the 4-3-2-1 formation posted on the official website of the Scottish Professional Football League. The former Brighton and Wigan Athletic defender was partnered by Hibernian’s Ryan Porteous in central defence in the defence.
Giving reasons for the 32-year-old’s inclusion in the Team of The Week, the website wrote, “A very impressive start from the summer signing saw him dominate opposing attackers in Rangers’ 1-0 victory over Aberdeen as the two clubs got the Scottish Premiership season underway.” Goalkeeper Trevor Carson , Jeremie Frimpong , Greg Taylor , Martin Boyle , Ian Harkes , Liam Craig , Jamie McGrath , Ross Stewart and Odsonne Edouard completed the Team of The Week list. All rights reserved.
