It’s not going to be easy as Ash Barty tries to become the first Aussie to win her home Slam in 42 years, while Rafael Nadal and Nick Kyrgios can’t be too happy. Full analysis of the AusOpen draw

If Barty gets through that, she could face Qiang Wang who beat her in the fourth round of the 2019 US Open, but would be more likely to be up against Serena Williams or Naomi Osaka.

As explained in the bottom section of this article, our analysis rates Berrettini as being overseeded by around eight spots, so he’s not as dangerous as other members of the top eight would be for Federer. One of the top dark horses in the men’s draw, No.17 seed Rublev has won ten straight matches - four at the Davis Cup, four on route to the Qatar Open title, and two in the ongoing Adelaide International.

Don’t be surprised if we see Rublev in the quarter-finals; he made it to the third round two years ago, and he has improved greatly since then. The bottom half of the women’s draw appears quite a bit weaker than the top - which features Ash Barty, Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka - and the third quarter appears the most likely to produce a surprise semi-finalist.

But there are certainly some chances for Aussie men to pull some early upsets at their home slam. Four of them have seeded opponents in Round 1, but none of the absolute best-of-the-best. Kyrgios should get through the first two rounds relatively easily, facing Lorenzo Sonego first up, but then comes No.16 seed Karen Khachanov in the third round.

Then comes the potential Kyrgios or Khachanov match-up, followed by likely battles with No.5 Dominic Thiem and No.4 Daniil Medvedev. The highest-ranked non-Big Three male, Daniil Medvedev, also has a tricky start to the Australian Open as he drew 2019 quarter-finalist Frances Tiafoe. On the women’s side, No.4 Simona Halep won’t be thrilled to see Jennifer Brady across the net in Round 1, given Brady has beaten both Ash Barty and Maria Sharapova already this month.

Oh, and then No.5 Elina Svitolina might be there in the quarters. Pliskova is unlikely to have a single easy match at this event.Naomi Osaka. Venus Williams. Coco Gauff. Sloane Stephens. Sofia Kenin. Jo Konta. Caroline Wozniacki. Dayana Yastremska. Serena Williams. First, the underseeded players, who can be considered more dangerous than the number next to their name on the bracket.Women:
