THE Africa Union has announced the commencement of monthly shipments of the 400 million doses of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine acquired by it through the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust to its member-states, beginning from Thursday.
The vaccine supplies, according to the AU, will help Africa reach its target of vaccinating at least 60 per cent of the population, to contain the spread of COVID-19. The agreement entails that the 55-member-states of the AU will take delivery of the vaccines from Thursday. It was also noted that monthly shipments would continue and be continually ramped up, with a target of delivering almost 50 million vaccines before the end of December.
