Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has thrown his weight behind the Christian Association of Nigeria's resolutions on security, demanding a comprehensive overhaul of the nation's security architecture and calling on President Bola Tinubu to take immediate, tangible steps to address the widespread insecurity. He commended the united stance of Christian leaders and appealed to all faith groups to support this national wake-up call.

Atiku Abubakar , presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, has voiced strong support for the resolutions issued by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) following its 2026 National Church Leaders Summit.

The former Vice President endorsed CAN's call for urgent reforms to tackle the nation's deepening security crisis. In a statement posted on his verified X account, Atiku affirmed his alignment with the concerns raised by the Christian body and extended sympathy to all Nigerians impacted by pervasive insecurity. He noted that CAN's demand for a full review of Nigeria's security framework mirrors his own repeated criticism of the current administration's performance.

Atiku praised Christian leaders from various denominations for uniting on this issue, calling it a timely and necessary spiritual wake-up call for political leaders. He highlighted the significance of the three-day national mourning declared by Christian blocs, urging those in power to reflect and act decisively. Atiku stressed that insecurity spares no ethnic or religious group and called for broad national solidarity, also urging Muslim organisations to join the call for accountability.

He directly appealed to President Bola Tinubu to heed CAN's urgent appeal and move beyond rhetoric to implement concrete security measures before the end of his term
