Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan (UI), Prof. Idowu Olayinka, yesterday said that the university and humanity would continue to celebrate the late emeritus Prof. Oladipo Akinkugbe. OladipoAkinkugbe
Olayinka, who spoke at the lying-in-state ceremony held in honour of the late emeritus professor of Medicine at Trenchard Hall of the university, said that the former VC of Ahmadu Bello University , Zaria, gave his talent, time and treasures to the premier university and humanity.
The VC, who recounted various achievements of the renowned medical icon in the academia and his numerous contributions to UI, which included the recent donation of library to the Kenneth Dike Library in February this year, said: “You gave of your talent, time and treasures.
“We commiserate with the widow, our highly respected mama, retired professor of Child Health, Prof. Folasade Akinkugbe, the children, siblings and the entire Akinkugbe’s family.” In attendance were different accomplished academics and individuals from various walks of life, who paid glowing tributes to the former Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board .
The tributes came from the Head, Department of Medicine, Prof. Adebola Ogunniyi on behalf of the department; Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Prof. Mayowa Owolabi on behalf of the faculty and Provost, College of Medicine, Prof. Oluwabunmi Olaopa-Olapade, on behalf of the College of Medicine. Other speakers also read their tributes on behalf of various associations, institutions, colleagues and mentees associated with the late sage.
