At Makurdi, the octogenarian completed the entire London Institute of Bankers Examination.
He is a renowned banker whose career started at Barclays Bank DCO , Garden Avenue Branch, Enugu on 18 April,1961 and was transferred to Makurdi barely two weeks after resuming at Enugu.
In July 1967, Chief Umeh left for the United Kingdom for training/attachment with Barclays Bank Ltd and had an opportunity of working in at least four branches during his attachment in the UK. Chief Umeh retired from the banking industry at 55 in 1995 after a send-forth. He got his friends to establish the Igbo-Ukwu Micro Finance Ltd, and was the board chairman for years. He is currently chairman, Board of Directors of Apex Hospital Group.
