The Academic Staff Union of Universities , Taraba State University chapter has declared an indefinite strike action. The decision was taken during the union’s congress meeting in the state. The union stated that the reason behind their action is a result of the government’s failure to pay earned academic allowances, promotion arrears, fractional payment of…The Academic Staff Union of Universities , Taraba State University chapter has declared an indefinite strike action.

Taraba State University ASUU Chairman, Samuel Shitaa, noted that other reasons for the industrial action includes non-implementation of agreements and perimeter fencing of the institution. Reacting to the strike action, Commissioner for Tertiary education in Taraba Edward Baraya said the union has not communicated its action to the state government.

Baraya wondered why ASUU would take such a decision when the present government is doing everything possible to address the issues before leaving office. Special adviser to the governor on media and publicity Bala Dan-Abu said the outgoing governor is owing no worker salaries.
