Asian carriers avoid air space over Iran, Iraq
Airlines and transport authorities in Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan and India on Wednesday are avoiding air space over Iran and Iraq as tensions between Iran and the U.S. threatened to boil.
A statement from the carrier said: “safety is of utmost importance to Malaysia Airlines,’’noting that certain long-haul flights did not fly over Iraq and that it would henceforth avoid Iranian airspace. In India, authorities have reportedly instructed national carriers to avoid airspace over Iran, Iraq and the Gulf.Taiwan’s state-run Central News Agency reported that all passenger flights with Taiwan’s China Airlines will avoid flying over Iran and Iraq.
Taiwan’s EVA Air said all European-bound flights began taking alternative routes early Wednesday to avoid conflict regions in the Middle East, the Liberty Times reported.
