was about to turn the art world on its head. But, on the eve of the October event, she’s determined to find the positives. “I see this as a big reset,” she says. “There are opportunities for us to really think about consumption, travel and excess, and now we have a shot at finding more sustainable models.”
And will going digital make for an even more global line-up than usual? “You have to think about who’s represented, who’s not, and what you can do to bring them to the table,” says Langret, who is sharp and gloriously unpretentious – quick to grin and roll her eyes when asked “the diversity question”.
“Until recently, I was painting the walls of galleries myself,” she says. “In tiny teams, you learn but you can feel limited by your own capacity.” With Frieze, she’s eager to help smaller galleries and access a wider audience. “It’s not a machine that needs fixing,” she says of the institution. “There’s a great legacy for me to build on. It’s about fine-tuning it.”
