Arsenal vs Liverpool: Van Dijk reveals who to blame for 2-1 defeat

Liverpool defender, Virgil van Dijk, has admitted it was his turn to play the “villain”, after his error contributed significantly to their 2-1 defeat at Arsenal on Wednesday.With the Reds totally in control of the game, Van Dijk made an error.

The Dutch defender miscued a back pass to Alisson, allowing Alexandre Lacazette to pounce and equalise.Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Van Dijk said: “Obviously the goals we gave them as a present, I think until that first goal it was totally us, we put pressure on them and then gave them two goals.“Then it’s difficult to come back, we created some opportunities, they tried to break on us at times. If you give goals away like we did, including myself, you get what you deserve.

“If you look at the goals, they shouldn’t happen. But until then there was nothing wrong. We pressed them, scored a good goal. “A moment of concentration, it happens in football, you have to deal with it. We had to deal with it twice.” The defeat means Liverpool will not be able to beat Manchester City’s record points haul of 100 from the 2017/2018 season.
