REUTERS: Apple Inc on Monday rolled out a new television-watching app for its devices and some Internet-connected TVs, an effort to gain more revenue from reselling other companies' programming and, later this year, its own original shows.

Apple is following cable provider Comcast Corp and others that have taken steps to simplify modern TV watching. Apple officials would not comment on the economics of the channels, but people familiar with the matter said Apple will take a cut of the subscription fees when customers use the Apple TV app to sign up for a channel.Apple's sales from its services business, which also includes sales from iCloud, the App Store and other businesses, reached US$11.45 billion in its most recent fiscal quarter, compared with analyst estimates of US$11.32 billion, according to FactSet data.
