Anti-Snakebite: University Of Jos Makes Major Breakthrough In Medical Research.
A major breakthrough in medical research has been recorded to enhance snakebite management, with the production of a vaccine that can tackle the effects of snakebites.
The covip-plus vaccine, developed by a research team at the University of Jos, is meant to prevent and neutralise the infusion of snake venom into human and animal tissue or blood.Addressing journalists on the achievement, vice-chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Sebastian Maimako asked the Federal Government and pharmaceutical companies to synergise with the institution to produce the vaccine as an indigenous product.
The anti-snake venom vaccine is derived from the seeds of a plant traditionally used by the Rukuba people of Bassa in Plateau state.
