Lael Wilcox, an Anchorage cyclist, has achieved a remarkable feat by completing the fastest circumnavigation of the globe by a female cyclist. Wilcox finished her 18,125-mile journey in Chicago on Wednesday, beating the previous record by over 16 days.
ANCHORAGE , Alaska - An Anchorage cyclist has put herself into the world record books by completing the quickest ride around the globe among female cyclists ever.
Anchorage rider Lael Wilcox finished her marathon journey on Wednesday in Chicago, finishing an outstanding 18,125-mile ride that took her 108 days, 12 hours, and 12 minutes, beating the old record of over 124 days. Wilcox’s record has yet to be officially confirmed by Guinness World Records.on May 26, 2024, in Chicago. In the months in between, she rode through dozens of cities, countries, and states — including New York City, Portugal, Georgia, Australia, Alaska, and back to Chicago.
Wilcox made her hometown stop in Anchorage on Aug. 7 — which was day #74 for her — before continuing on to Tolsona and Tetlin Junction as she made her way to the Canadian border.
