Anambra State officials are conducting a demolition operation targeting unauthorized structures across the state. Governor Charles Soludo's directive to uphold law and order has led to a crackdown on buildings lacking proper permits. The operation aims to ensure public safety, environmental protection, and adherence to building regulations.

Anambra State officials have launched an enforcement operation targeting illegal structures, emphasizing the importance of building permits for public safety and environmental well-being. Chike Maduekwe, managing director of the Anambra State Physical Planning Board, stated that the demolition drive is a direct response to Governor Charles Soludo's directive to uphold law and order in the state.

Maduekwe explained that the board had issued a three-month notice to developers to present proof of building approval, but many failed to comply. Consequently, the demolition of structures deemed unauthorized began. Among the demolished structures were shanties near public buildings in Nkisi and an ongoing construction project encroaching on a canal in the Omogba area of Onitsha.Maduekwe highlighted the seriousness of the operation, asserting that it would be continuous and comprehensive. He emphasized that no one, regardless of their status, would be exempt from the enforcement measures if they lacked proper building permits. He cited a specific case of a developer who ignored prior warnings and built on a canal, creating a security risk with reports of nighttime rapes and criminal activity. Maduekwe vowed to monitor the site and hold the developer accountable. He reiterated the state government's commitment to safety and warned all individuals, including government officials, to secure proper building approvals before commencing construction. Failure to comply, he stated, would result in the demolition of their structures
