The Anambra State Police Command reports a successful year in crime prevention and detection, highlighting the arrest of over 300 suspects, the rescue of 14 kidnapped victims, and the recovery of numerous weapons and stolen vehicles.
The Anambra police command reports the arrest of over 300 suspects and the rescue of 14 kidnapped victims, including three children abducted from Bauchi state in 2024. Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson in Anambra, stated during a press briefing on Monday that the command also secured 30 convictions within the same period.
He highlighted the command's efforts in combating crime through security advocacy visits to local government headquarters and the establishment of a community policing committee to promote community engagement. Ikenga mentioned that the suspects, including the foster mother of the stolen children, confessed to their crimes. The police recovered over 43 unexploded improvised devices and more than 100 firearms, including AK-47s, pump-action guns, and locally made pistols. He noted the destruction of numerous criminal camps, with the Nimo, Njikoka LGA camp being particularly significant, yielding 19 unexploded devices. Among the notable arrests was Pablo, a notorious kidnapper terrorizing Ihiala, Anambra state, as well as areas in Enugu and Delta states. Additionally, the command apprehended two notorious cultists in Awka, recovering a pump-action gun, four live cartridges, a cutlass, criminal charms, and substances suspected to be hard drugs. Ikenga also reported the recovery of approximately 40 stolen vehicles and over 2,937 rounds of ammunition of various types
