The statement, released during Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, urged the creation of safe spaces for men to express themselves and receive care. She encouraged men to take time to rest, connect, and care for their minds as they do for their bodies.

Soludo said that for generations, many men have been taught to carry their burdens in silence, to suppress emotions, and to equate strength with enduring pain alone. She added that men should not continue to carry their burdens in silence, pointing out that true strength also lies in speaking up, seeking support, and prioritising emotional and mental well-being.
The Anambra first lady, who is also the founder of the non-governmental organisation, ‘Healthy living with Nonye Soludo’, stated this in a press statement she released on Monday, as part of actions commemorating the ‘Men’s mental health awareness month ‘. She emphasised that as the people work towards healthier families and communities, they must create spaces where men feel safe to express themselves, ask for help when needed, and receive the care, attention, and understanding they deserve.
She said, “This June, as we observe ‘Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month’, it’s important to shine a light on a conversation that is often overlooked but deeply important. For generations, many men have been taught to carry their burdens in silence, to suppress emotions, and to equate strength with enduring pain alone.
“As we work towards healthier families and communities, we must create spaces where men feel safe to express themselves, ask for help when needed, and receive the care, attention, and understanding they deserve. Mental health is not a sign of weakness; it is an essential part of overall health.
“To every man striving, fighting, providing, leading and navigating life’s challenges: your well-being really matters. Take time to rest, connect, seek support, and care for your mind just as you care for your body. We love you so much. ” Mental health advocates have repeatedly raised concerns over the growing burden of mental health challenges among men, noting that societal expectations and cultural norms often discourage them from expressing emotions or seeking professional help.
