A group of the All Progressives Congress has distanced one of the leading aspirants in the race for the Senate president, Osita Izunaso, f
rom the alleged rape levelled against him by a 300-level student of Imo State University, Chioma Chikere.
News of the rape allegation has gone viral on social media after it was published by an online news platform. The student, who hails from Omuma in the same local government as Governor Hope Uzodinma, bemoaned that a rapist should not be made a Senate President, claiming Izunaso ripped her of her virginity.Reacting in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, the Coordinator of APC Integrity Group, Malam Dawu Mohammed, described the claim as cheap, frivolous, and a desperate attempt to halt Izunaso’s ambition to become the next Senate president.
