Albertans are pessimistic and leaning toward voting Notley over Danielle Smith: poll abpoli ableg
David Coletto, the CEO of Abacus Data, said that because Alberta trends conservative, to some extent, Notley’s NDP is at a structural disadvantage in the province.Article content
The poll asked respondents to pick from two statements about what kind of government Albertans want. One was whether they wanted “a government that shakes things up and pushes back against elites, Justin Trudeau, and others trying to change Alberta.” Incidentally, those bread-and-butter “basic” issues are most important to those planning to vote New Democrat and unaligned voters Article content
What the New Democrats need to do, Coletto said, is work on explaining how they can tackle the issues that people tend to trust the UCP to handle. “What this data shows us is a number of paths that the province could take … as the two parties work to frame what the next election is going to be about,” said Coletto. The first is Edmonton. The second is Calgary. The third, the rest of province — smaller cities of around 100,000 people, and smaller towns and rural areas. In order to form government, the electoral math generally requires a party to win two of these three constituencies.
