Akwa Ibom Senators want FG to reopen international airport in Uyo

Senator Albert Bassey Akpan, speaking on behalf of two others from the State revealed that about 105 aircraft fly in and out of the airport weekly.

He further explained that the State government recently procured another aircraft to be added to the fleet, saying that when the airport is opened, it would boost economic activities of the State. “Mr President, distinguished colleagues, you are aware that the Federal Government has announced the opening of five international airports on June 21st across the country.“Akwa Ibom international airport serves Aba, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and other parts of Southeast and South-South and if included, it would assist air travels to different parts of Nigeria and the world.”

Reacting, Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan asked the Senate Committee on Aviation to liaise with the Federal Ministry of Aviation to ensure that Akwa Ibom International Airport was among those to be opened by the Federal Government on the stated date.
