Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismantled a four-man kidnap gang and arrested four suspects in military uniforms while setting two victims free from their abductors.
While parading the suspects, the state’s Commissioner of Police , CP Waheed Ayilara, vowed to rid the state of all criminal elements in his quest to make Akwa Ibom safe for visitors, tourists and investors. The CP, who spoke through the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, explained that the suspects were caught in the act and rounded up by operatives who swiftly responded to distress calls.
He disclosed that the gang members were arrested at the verge of kidnapping one Richie who is a friend of Ekpe who had already fallen victim to the suspects. “Their plan was to take them to the Odukpani LGA in the neighbouring Cross River State. Further investigation also revealed that they had demanded a ransom of N5 million from their victim, but he could not pay, prompting them to also kidnap his friend.
