New inmates remanded in any custodial centre in Akwa Ibom are to undergo compulsory 14 days isolation at the 100-bed isolation facility located in the Ikot-Ekpene.

A statement by the state Correctional Service Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ogbajie Ogbajie, on Monday indicated the facility would serve as a centralised COVID-19 isolation centre for new inmates.

According to the statement, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Uwemedimo Nwoko, had inspected the facility. He was accompanied by the Controller of Corrections, Alex Oditah, and Officer-in-charge of Ikot Ekpene Custodial Centre, Deputy Controller of Corrections, Chukwuemeka Patrick.

“The 100-bed building will serve as a centralised COVID-19 isolation centre for new inmates admitted in the Nigerian Correctional Service, Akwa Ibom State Command. “To this effect, all inmates remanded in any custodial centre in Akwa Ibom State will first undergo compulsory 14 days isolation at this centre after completion,” the statement read.All rights reserved.
