Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs George Akume has debunked allegations that he insulted the Tor Tiv, James Ayatse.
Akume was responding to allegations that he insulted the monarch by calling him Tor pati . He said the allegation was borne out of people’s imagination, especially those who want to create enmity between the monarch and himself.
The minister, who spoke at the wedding reception of the Tor Tiv’s son, Dr. Fanen Ortese Ayatse, explained that he did not insult the monarch and would not dare such, considering that his family has produced a traditional ruler of high status.Akume, who represented President Muhammadu Buhari, said he understands the culture and traditions of the Tiv people and would not do such nor encourage anyone.
He pleaded with the Tor Tiv not to take the allegations serious. He also urged the monarch to see him as a respectful and obedient son of the land who is ready to accord him the respect he and other monarchs deserve. “I come from a royal family and would not disrespect the traditional institution. Those behind the allegation that I insulted the Tor Tiv at a public function are lying. I assure the Tor Tiv of a cordial relationship and respect at all times.
