President Bola Tinubu has appointed Aisha Garba, a seasoned international development specialist, as the new Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Aisha Garba as the new Executive Secretary of Universal Basic Education (UBEC). Garba's appointment was announced by the special adviser to the president on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga on Tuesday, December 17. According to Onanuga, before her appointment, Garba, an international development specialist, worked as a senior education specialist at the World Bank.
With over twenty-four years of experience, Garba is known for being at the forefront of impactful development initiatives for human and economic development. She has worked in various countries including Ghana, the US, the United Kingdom, Ghana, and Nigeria. Garba obtained a Bachelor of Arts combined degree in English and Computer Studies in 2000 from Petra American University in Jordan. The new UBEC ES later obtained a Master’s in International Development at the University of Birmingham in the UK in 2007. Onanuga said the President expects Garba to drive the renewed hope and vision of providing and supporting quality education. She is also expected to ensure that every Nigerian child can compete in the global scene
