Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the newly created Zone 13, Danmallam Muhammed, has cautioned officers against illegal arrests and extortion. Addressing newsmen at the Zonal Command in Ukpo, Dunukofia Council Area of Anambra State, Muhammed also declared that the Zone would not tolerate any form of human rights abuses within its area of jurisdiction.
“We believe in due process. We will do our best to protect lives and property in compliance with extant laws of the land. We shall maintain law and order within the zone. We shall uphold human rights. “We say no to extortion. We say no to extrajudicial killings. We say no to torture and illegal arrests. We will adopt every visibility policy to combat crimes in the zone in line with the policy of Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu Abubakar,” he said.
The AIG, who spoke in company of commissioners of police for Anambra, John Abang, Ahmad Abdurrahman and Philip Sule Maku , urged members of the public to feel free and report any crime through their state commands using the appropriate channels. He, however, said the zone was yet to receive a petitions or complaints since it was inaugurated on July 8 this year.
