The Nation Newspaper Adegbonmire hails Akpabio's election into IPU's executive body
The last time Nigeria was elected into the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Union was in 1964.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union is the global organisation of national parliaments founded in 1889, dedicated to promoting peace through parliamentary diplomacy and dialogue. A statement by Adegbonmire explained that the election of Akpabio into such lofty position would have great impact through the empowerment of parliaments and parliamentarians, promote peace, democracy and sustainable development in the countryHe said: “Your election into such auspicious body is a testament to your unwavering commitment, tireless efforts, and exceptional dedication and leadership qualities”“Accept my heartfelt congratulations on this remarkable achievement.
