The forum praised Gowon as a nationalist, an icon of Nigeria's fight for unity, a humble man, a symbol of military professionalism, and a hero who dedicated himself to 'Keep Nigeria One.' The ACF noted that the honor coincides with Gowon's 90th birthday, calling it a fitting recognition and a Christmas gift from the Federal Government to the former General. The statement commended the Federal Government for bestowing the honor on Gowon while he is still alive to witness it and called on the National Assembly to swiftly pass the necessary legislation to formalize the renaming.
