These are definitely not the best of times for residents of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and environs, following the sudden increase in armed robbery, kidnapping and vicious assaults in recent days.
The escalation of these violent crimes has become a source of worry for most residents that some are considering relocating from the outskirts to the city centre.
While Odeniyi was robbed at about 2:00a.m. on Saturday in his Lugbe residence, Orjiude was kidnapped in Chika, Lugbe, at about 12.p.m on Sunday. His abductors demanded N20 million as ransom to set him free. The kidnappers, who abducted the Royal father last Wednesday in front of his palace, contacted the family on Saturday to make the demand if they want him alive.
Months ago, the FCT Administration raised the alarm that bandits and other criminals being forced out of key Northern states are relocating to towns around Abuja.
