Two people have been arrested following the incident, which closed the A453 between Green Lane and Farnborough Road for over a day
A major road outside a Nottingham Trent University campus has reopened this morning after a serious crash left two people with life-threatening injuries. The incident involved a Ford Fiesta and a BMW and took place at around 1.45am on Friday , with a passenger from each vehicle being left with injuries which are currently believed to be life-threatening.
The A453 westbound between Green Lane and Farnborough Road was immediately closed following the incident and remained shut throughout Friday. Nottinghamshire Police has now confirmed the reopening of the road, with Highways East Midlands confirming it had fully reopened by around 3.45am - 26 hours after it first closed.
Nottinghamshire Police explained that the road had to remain closed until the early hours of Saturday whilst road resurfacing work was carried out due to a fuel spill. A 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drink driving following the crash.
The crash took place outside NTU's Clifton campus and drivers were asked to avoid the area whilst the closure remained in place. HGV drivers in particular were asked to use alternative routes to avoid causing major traffic disruption.
