‘A large proportion of the state is in the firing line’: Major flood warning for parts of NSW | Laura_R_Chung daniellamariewh

There are currently 18 flood warnings across the state as emergency services warn residents in northern regions they are at the highest risk from the wild weather.

Residents in the state’s north and central west — in locations including Armidale, Tamworth, Gunnedah, Moree, Narrabri and Parkes — have been warned they live in areas of particular concern and to prepare for major flooding. “Roads will be cut off in many areas, so avoid unnecessary travel in those areas and never drive through floodwaters. Time and time again we see poor results with poor decision-making [when] people driving through floodwaters, often with tragic results.”

Mr Storey added that residents living in flood-prone areas that were likely to be affected should prepare to evacuate if required. The weather agency has warned that flooding could occur across parts of five states and territories during the next few days, inundating roads and rivers. It comes as many inland parts of Australia have experienced wet conditions this month, with Uluru recording more than 100 millimetres of rain in the 24 hours to 9am on Wednesday morning, an amount it hasn’t received since 2000.
