However, experts have highlighted some canoe safety tips that should be adhered to.
Sharing safety tips for tourists on Connect Nigeria, a writer, Ann Esievoadjie, said those who wanted to board a canoe should be appropriately dressed in order to minimise risks.
“In those cases, make sure you pick one that is the right size for your body and ignore the discomfort you may feel using it and bring extra clothing in a waterproof bag in case your outfit gets wet from the canoe ride,” she wrote.Abu pointed out that most canoe-related accidents were caused by excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages by a paddler or passengers.
“Check weather conditions before you paddle. Don’t paddle in extreme conditions such as high winds, a large swell, extreme temperatures, fog or thunderstorms. A somatic psychiatrist, Sarah Tuckett, in an article on panic attacks, said, “When you have anxiety or a panic attack, what typically happens is you over-breathe. Over-breathing causes a state of oxygen deficiency and a sensation of drowning or suffocating.”
