35-year-old allegedly rapes 11-year-old girl
A 35-year-old businessman, Charles Godwin, on Thursday was tried before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old girl,
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Godwin, a resident of No. 19, Alhaji Jinadu St., Afro media, Okokomaiko, Lagos, was charged with defilement. The Prosecutor, Insp. Christopher John, told the court that Godwin committed the offence on Feb. 9, at 5.00pm in his residence. According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened the provisions of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which prescribes up to life imprisonment on conviction.
In ruling, Chief Magistrate P.E. Nwaka, who did not take the plea of Godwin, ordered that the suspect be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Service in Kirikiri, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions .
