A 24-year-old farmer, Haruna Mohammed, has been arraigned before a magistrate’s court sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, for allegedly raping a 50-year-old woman.
The woman, whose name was not mentioned, was sexually abused on July 8, 2020 along Lalepa/Akinfosile Road at Igbotako area of the state.Police prosecutor, Mr Augustine Omhenimhen, said the offence of Mohammed is punishable under section 358 of the Criminal Code CAP 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
He asked the court to remand the accused person in custody pending legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecution. In her ruling, the Presiding Magistrate, Rasheedat Yakubu, remanded Mohammed in custody of the State Criminal Investigation Department pending legal advice from the DPP before adjourning the case.
