No fewer than 23 people lost their lives on Monday in a crash in Gwamfai village, in the Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
Our correspondent learnt that the victims, who were mostly traders and commuters, were travelling in a Toyota Hummer bus, with number plate, YD183 HJA.The state police spokesman, Audu Jinjiri, who confirmed the crash, said the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a house.
He explained that the vehicle went up in flames, adding that all the passengers were burnt beyond recognition. “The motor accident happened around 11.30am on Monday. The tyre of the Hummer bus, being driven by one Ayuba, 36, of Afasha village, Jahun LGA, burst. The vehicle was conveying the passengers from Jahun to Shuwarin.
“The driver lost control and hit a house. As a result, the vehicle caught fire and all the 22 passengers and the driver got burnt beyond recognition. “Eighteen males and five females were given a mass burial at the scene after the police took a doctor to the scene, who certified the victims dead,” he said.All rights reserved.
