The Good Governance Group, a pro-democracy advocacy platform, has called on Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, to clarify his political intentions ahead of the 2027 elections in Bauchi State.
The group expressed concern over what it described as the Minister’s increasing focus on state politics at the expense of his national responsibilities. In a statement issued on Wednesday , the group criticized what it described as a growing pattern of absentee leadership at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, citing delays in diplomatic coordination, dwindling visibility in regional affairs, and underperformance in managing Nigeria’s foreign missions.
“While Ambassador Tuggar is within his rights to seek elective office, the honorable course would be to resign and pursue his ambition without undermining the crucial role he currently occupies,” the group added. The group led by the Chairman, Hon. Ibrahim Isah said, “We will not sit idly while reckless children of failed public officials turn Bauchi into a battlefield for their ego wars.
