The Chairman of the United States chapter of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Tai Balofin, has called on Nigerians living abroad to begin mobilising their families and associates at home to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 general elections.
Balofin made the call on Friday during the unveiling of the “Call Home for Continuity” campaign at the maiden Nigeria Diaspora Economic Conference and inauguration ceremony organised by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors Diaspora–North America in Houston, Texas, according to a statement he personally released and signed on Friday. The campaign is designed to encourage Nigerians in the diaspora to persuade their relatives in Nigeria to register to vote, obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and support the APC and Tinubu’s second-term bid.
Speaking at the summit, Balofin said Nigerians abroad have a responsibility to influence the country’s political future despite residing outside its borders.
“Our responsibility does not end because we live outside Nigeria. We must engage our families and communities back home, encourage them to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards, participate in the electoral process and support the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said. Balofin, who is also the chapter Chairman of the APC in the US described the Nigerian diaspora as a strategic force capable of shaping electoral outcomes through family ties, advocacy and lawful political mobilisation.
He said the “Call Home for Continuity” initiative would serve as a platform for coordinating diaspora support for the Tinubu administration’s reforms ahead of the 2027 elections. During the event, he presented inauguration letters and awards to newly appointed Renewed Hope Ambassadors Diaspora–North America coordinators, describing them as grassroots mobilisers who would spearhead the campaign across North America.

Also speaking, the General Coordinator of RHADNA, Ambassador Semiu Ayoola Olanipekun, said Nigerians in the diaspora could no longer afford to remain passive observers in Nigeria’s democratic process.
“The era of passive participation by Nigerians in the diaspora is over. Our economic strength, professional expertise and family connections should be harnessed to deepen political participation and strengthen democracy back home,” Olanipekun said. According to the organisers, the campaign will leverage the extensive family and community ties maintained by Nigerians abroad across the 36 states of the federation to promote voter registration, Permanent Voter Card collection and grassroots support for Tinubu’s re-election.
The launch comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum, with support groups within and outside Nigeria intensifying mobilisation efforts for the ruling party. Although Nigerians in the diaspora do not currently have voting rights in national elections, successive administrations have continued to engage the community because of its economic contributions and political influence. Nigeria remains one of Africa’s largest recipients of diaspora remittances, with billions of dollars sent home annually.
The mobilisation drive also comes days after a Federal High Court ruled that the APC should not operate formal party chapters outside Nigeria. Despite the judgment, diaspora APC leaders have maintained that Nigerians abroad retain their constitutional rights to freedom of association and political participation, insisting that their activities are focused on mobilisation and support for the party rather than conducting official electoral processes overseas.
