A total of 238 violence and 28 deaths were recorded during the 2023 general elections, a report by the election violence monitoring and mitigation group under the aegis of Kimpact Development Initiative, a civil society organisation, said on Friday.
Ajayi said, “I have to start by commending the organisations for this very wonderful report. I must say that the general elections, as they have reported, were relatively peaceful. According to their report, from what we know the election was generally and relatively peaceful, even more peaceful than the 2019 general elections.
On the prosecution of electoral offenders, he said, “I can assure you INEC is taking the issue of electoral offences very seriously and it won’t be like before that people will just commit an offence and go away with it.” Stocker said that there were 30 reported assassinations or attempted assassinations of candidates or party officials and more than two dozen attacks on INEC facilities.
