The Abia State government has expressed dismay over the brazen impunity exhibited by some traditional rulers who have abandoned their primary
responsibilities as custodians of tradition and customs of the people and descended into the arena of partisan politics in the state.
This was disclosed in a release signed by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Chris Ezem and made available to newsmen in Umuahia on Friday. The government also noted it has been inundated with reports of the involvement of recognized traditional rulers from Abia North, Central and South senatorial districts who have thrown caution to the winds in breach of existing public order.
According to the release, the state government has taken notice of the activities of three traditional rulers from Abia North, two from Abia Central and two from Abia South. “By this final notice, all traditional rulers are warned to desist forthwith from such unwholesome act as government will not hesitate to sanction any erring traditional ruler going forward,” the release stated.
