PETALING JAYA: The 2021 school year will begin and end later than usual to ensure there are still 194 school days in the academic calendar.
The school year will begin on Jan 20 and end on Dec 9 for schools in Johor, Kelantan, Kedah and Terengganu, while it will end on Dec 10 next year for schools in the other states, Education Ministry deputy director-general Adzman Talib said.
The mid-year break is back to its original nine days and will be from May 28 or May 29, until June 12 or June 13, depending on the state. The year-end holidays begin on Dec 10 or Dec 11 until Dec 31,2021. Parent Action Group for Education Malaysia chairman Datin Noor Azimah Abdul Rahim said it was laudable to maintain the number of school days while pushing back the start date of the 2021 academic year due to the pandemic.
