2019 Elections: Institute moves to reconcile aggrieved Enugu politicians vanguardngr.com vanguardnews

The mediation is part of an Alternative Dispute Resolution, ARD, mechanism aimed at dissuading aggrieved politicians from seeking redress in either tribunals or in the regular courts for pre-election matters. The ICMC, Enugu state branch said it will set up a peace committee for the mediation when it holds its annual ARD lecture, next week, with the theme “The Place of Mediation in Resolution of Electoral Disputes: 2019 General Elections in perspective.

State Chairman of ICMC, Mr. Uche Anioke said “We are doing this because we calculated that elections have come and gone and we see acrimonies here and there, almost turned to instability and we are saying this is the way to go. So we need to consciencetise our people on moving forward after elections and not to remain as enemies.”

He stated that the lecture is a fore runner to the main event coming up in December this year at Abuja, which would be marking the 20th anniversary of the institute. Chairman of the lecture panning committee, Dr. Eric Oluedo disclosed that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state has accepted to be the Special Guest of Honour, with the Supreme Court’s Justice C.C Nweze as the chairman of the occasion.

“Elections are made up of primary and general elections and there were disputes on both elections. If we form this peace committee, people may contest elections and not go to the tribunals. Up till now, some pre-election matters are still affecting even the election matters.
